Iain Campbell

Iain Campbell is a Glasgow based portrait painter and is an Affiliate Artist of the UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts (UNESCO RILA).

His commissioned work for the Royal Society of Edinburgh of five of their Refugee Academics joined the likes of Sir Walter Scott and Prof Peter Higgs in their permanent collection. These portraits introduced the first people of colour to the walls of the RSE. His bold portraits have explored life in the face of adversity. Iain is best known for his painting, Our Last Supper, featuring thirteen guests of Glasgow City Mission. He has also painted for Christian Aid, The World Council of Churches, Tearfund, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Between 2016 and 2019, he was artist-in-residence at St. George’s Tron Church of Scotland in Glasgow, painting 24 canvases of the Gospel of Luke. In 2020 he worked in partnership with Remembering Srebrenica (Scotland) on paintings for the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide after his visit to Bosnia with the charity in 2019.

Iain graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1997.

Iain’s work has been featured on BBC’s Songs of Praise, Reflections at the Quay, and Sunday Morning.
