Kerry Souter

Kerry Souter is a Scottish artist whose abstract, multi-layered paintings explore the emotional resonance of the coastal landscape. Working from her studio in Ayr, she draws deeply on her personal connection to Scotland’s shoreline, translating its textures, colours, and forms into expressive compositions that evoke both memory and place. Her practice mimics natural processes of erosion and growth, gradually building and subtracting layers of acrylic paint, collage, and glazes over time. These techniques create depth and history in each work, echoing the passage of time and the marks left behind by nature.

With a background in Textile Design from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Kerry’s tactile sensitivity and love for surface continue to influence her visual language. Organic textures; shaped by tide, stone, lichen, and shifting paths, feature prominently in her work, reflecting nature’s persistence and quiet transformation. Through her intuitive process, Kerry invites viewers into a space of introspection and calm, offering a visual meditation on change, resilience, and the layered nature of experience.
