About Greig Gilchrist

Raised exploring the wild coastline of Scotland’s West Coast, Greig eventually returned to his roots, settling with his family on the Isle of Lismore after more than three decades living and working around the world, including time spent in South America, the Caribbean and Asia. Today, he designs and creates from his studio and workshop on his wife’s family farm.

Working with carefully selected local hardwoods, Greig is drawn to the natural beauty hidden within the grain of each piece of timber. His work seeks to reveal and celebrate these organic patterns, allowing the character of the wood to guide the finished piece.

The sea is a constant presence throughout his practice. Influenced by a lifetime spent beside and beneath the water, and by many years of diving, he combines wood and resin to delicately preserve treasures foraged from the shorelines of the Scottish Highlands. Shells, fragments and coastal finds are suspended within his work, creating pieces that evoke the colours, textures and quiet magic of Scotland’s shores.

Rich in craftsmanship and a deep connection to place, Greig’s work captures the enduring relationship between land, sea and memory.
