A solo show of paintings by Nichol Wheatley
Saturday 3rd June – Saturday 1st July 2023
The Glasgow Gallery is thrilled to announce Nichol Wheatley’s solo exhibition. Inspired by his meanderings in Scottish landscapes, Wheatley’s latest paintings encompass the old Scots word stravaigin meaning to wander aimlessly with intent. The exhibition shows carefully captured scenes that focus on Wheatley’s ongoing fascination of light, specifically during the period from dusk into early night.
STAVAIGIN will be Wheatley’s first solo exhibition with The Glasgow Gallery since joining the gallery earlier in the year. Best known for his large-scale murals that hang in Òran Mór and his work with the late Alasdair Gray, Wheatley has embarked on variety of art projects based in or nearby Glasgow. He is currently the artist and curator behind two, large, artwork programs located in North Glasgow’s Stockingfield Bridge and the new Cross Tay link road, North of Perth.
