This weekend, Colour Unbound opened at The Glasgow Gallery, and it is impossible to ignore! This vibrant group exhibition brings together four remarkable artists whose work bursts with colour, energy and movement, transforming familiar subjects into something fresh, dynamic and entirely captivating. Featuring Kerry Souter, Katy Sawrey, Samantha McCubbin and Mary McDonald, the exhibition invites you to see landscapes, seascapes and still lifes in exciting new ways.

Mary McDonald's work in Colour Unbound
Kerry Souter’s paintings pull you into the textures and colours of the Ayrshire coastline, drawing your eye to the smallest details of rock, sand and seaweed. Each layer of paint captures movement, weathering and the passage of time, creating a sense of intimacy and discovery. Katy Sawrey captures fleeting, dramatic moments in Scotland’s landscape, from stormy skies to the soft glow of sunrise, transforming light and atmosphere into geometric forms that shimmer with depth and colour. Samantha McCubbin’s works explode with energy and expressive brushwork, from the vibrant intensity of Bloom Burst to the gentle, delicate tones of Scarlet Trio, celebrating the joy of colour in every stroke. Mary McDonald distills landscape and still life to their essential rhythms, revealing underlying structures with bold, confident marks and vibrant palettes that celebrate the ever-changing Scottish skies and waters.

Across the gallery, these four artists converse in colour, texture and movement. Their approaches range from instinctive and spontaneous to carefully observed and structured, yet all share a love of colour as something alive, emotional and transformative. The exhibition is full of surprises, inviting you to pause, look closely, and see the everyday transformed into something extraordinary.
