We have reached the end of the first week of EDGE OF THE KNOWN and the exhibition has settled beautifully into the gallery...
Some of you may have spotted it featured in The Herald last week or in this month's Scottish Field, while others have discovered it during a wander through town. However you found us, it has been a joy to see visitors spending time with these works and connecting with the landscapes and stories they hold!
There is something wonderfully peaceful about this exhibition. The four artists each explore places where land and water meet, from coastlines and islands to lochs and tidal edges. Together, their work creates a calm and contemplative atmosphere throughout the gallery, inviting visitors to slow down, look a little longer, and lose themselves in landscapes that feel both familiar and quietly magical.

At the centre of the exhibition is a beautiful new body of work by Glasgow-based artist Connie Liebschner. Inspired by islands, changing coastlines, and time spent swimming outdoors, her paintings have a dreamlike quality to them amongst layers of colour and their fluid texture they draw you into worlds that sit somewhere between memory and imagination. Water appears not only as a reflection of the landscape, but as a mysterious presence in its own right, holding secrets beneath the surface and inviting us to consider what lies beyond the visible.

Alongside Connie's work, Julie Smith presents richly textured paintings shaped by her deep connection to the Scottish landscape. Fragments of wool, sand, and materials gathered from the coast become part of the surface itself, creating works that feel steeped in memory and history.
Carol Nunan's atmospheric printmaking brings another dimension to the exhibition. Inspired by ancient sites, shifting weather, and the enduring presence of place, her prints feel both grounded and ethereal. We are also delighted to have a selection of Carol's mounted, unframed works available, offering a wonderful opportunity to take home an original piece of her work.

Kerry Souter's layered abstract paintings complete the exhibition beautifully. Her work echoes the rhythms of the shoreline, building and revealing surfaces in much the same way that tides shape the landscape. There is a quiet sense of movement throughout her paintings, balanced by a feeling of stillness and reflection.
One of the things we love most about EDGE OF THE KNOWN is how naturally these artists' works sit together. Each brings a different voice, yet collectively they create an exhibition that feels thoughtful, serene, and deeply connected to the landscapes that inspire them.

We are looking forward to tomorrow's 'Meet the Artist' event on Saturday 30th May from 11am until 1pm. It is a wonderful chance to meet Connie, Julie and Carol in person, hear about their inspirations and processes, and spend time with the artists behind the work.
