We're thrilled to welcome back John Lowrie Morrison OBE for a stunning solo exhibition of more than 30 new works.
For more than 50 years, John Lowrie Morrison has been painting scenes of the West Coast of Scotland filled with passion and colour. With a connection to his subjects and a passion to research the history of his locations, John's work is instantly recognisable and has a profound emotional impact.
Visiting Oban in Argyll on family holidays as a child was the start of John's love affair with not only the area of Argyll but the West Coast of Scotland.
His Hebridean roots are strong and of huge significance. Family connections to Harris, Skye and the Outer Isles meant John also visited here as a child and these experiences are what so honestly expresses on his canvases.
One of the simple reasons John never tires of these scenes is because of the tremendous variation and intimacy in the Argyll landscapes coupled with the huge skies and endless beaches in the likes of Harris, Tiree or South Uist.
However, one thing that John loves the most is the ever-changing light and colour of these scenes.
"Although you'll see a croft or a beach in my work, it's not really the beach or the croft that I'm painting, it's the light and how it affects everything it touches".
You can now view the full exhibition here, or click on any of the images for further information. If you'd like to enquire about any of the pieces please send an email to info@glasgowgallery.co.uk or give us a call on 0141 333 1991.
