John Lowrie Morrison's largest exhibition of the year

The Glorious Light of the West

On Saturday we opened our latest exhibition, The Glorious Light of the West  with John Lowrie Morrison OBE - Jolomo. Unsurprisingly the weather outside was grey and rainy however the gallery was a bright and colourful haven with every wall filled with bursts of colourful Scottish scenery. Despite the weather, we are hugely thankful to all who made the opening and made the day so wonderfully busy alongside John's attendance to discuss his work which is so appreciated.

In these 50 new works, each piece portrays a fragment of his much-loved places in which the ever-changing light is frozen. Having painted many locations across Europe, John describes the air in the West as being purer and the light as more dramatic.
With a deep love for a stormy day and endless opportunity for inspiration in these recent months, many of the paintings in this exhibition are stormy ones. He is captivated by the way light and colour changes in different weather and transforms the spanning sky.

"The light is spectacular. The sunsets linger for longer, a shower of rain brings dramatic changes to the light and colour"

This never-seen-before body of work is filled with John's distinctive knife-work and strong colour palette alongside a new addition of pinks and purples. Like most artwork, we recommend seeing a Jolomo in person to really experience the vibrancy and texture within each piece. This exhibition is a real celebration of the West coast, seen through the eyes of John.
“It is a wonderful, wonderful place and everything I do has something to do with the light. The light has definitely got into me and I think that is always what it has been about.”

The Glorious Light of the West continues until 16th December.

We hope you can make it in to the gallery to view this stunning representation of the West coast of Scotland. We feel privileged to be able to share them with you.
