Margaret Evans

Known internationally for her painting, writing and teaching, Margaret Evans is a Scottish contemporary artist and leading figure in pastel work.  Having studied art at Glasgow School of Art and Art Teaching at University of London, Margaret is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and has spent much of her life promoting and endorsing pastels as a truly serious and worthy medium for artists.  Continuously inspired and excited by the medium, she uses them in numerous ways from wet to dry, creating real light, depth and tone within her work.

Margaret also uses gouache, a similar medium to watercolour but more opaque in consistency which allows her to blend tones with ease to achieve a greater strength in colour and lightness of touch.

Through teaching and travelling, Margaret believes her influences have widened and her style has loosened as artist’s she has met along the way have inspired her.  Returning to Scotland in the late 80’s, she was immediately inspired by the Scottish landscape and has since found her studio base in Highland Perthshire, an area of outstanding beauty which offers plenty of inspirational subjects featured in her work, such as dramatic skies, seasonal woodland spots, Loch Earn and the Grampian Mountains.  Margaret continually sources new ways to express herself as a painter, whether through her love of pastel, sketches in watercolour or in oils.
