Kenny Woods

Kenny Woods is a wood carver based in Alford, Aberdeenshire. With over 20 years of experience working with wood, he creates beautiful, one-off pieces that highlight the individual and unique characteristics of the medium. Working primarily in Burr Elm, Kenny sculpts pieces that embody the grain and cluster markings of this rare and sought after wood, often leaving the intricate outside exposed.

Through-out Kenny’s work, nature is celebrated with references to seeds, plants and organic shapes. His work echoes the breath taking and beautiful details found in nature and carpology.

He uses a traditional Japanese wood-charring technique called ‘Shou Sugi Ban’ to scorch the external layers of the wood and naturally preserve it with a rich, blackened surface. Each piece is made using sustainable materials such as locally sourced wood, natural oils and milk-paint. Many of the dried flowers displayed alongside his pieces are cultivated and dried by Kenny himself.
