Janet McCrorie

Janet McCrorie was an arts and crafts teacher before changing direction in 2001 and studying with The Open College of the Arts and at Leith School of Art to become a successful figurative artist.

With a keen interest in depicting movement, which is expressed in her paintings of Scottish dancers, mixed media allows Janet the variation in textures to capture the unique look of the tartan and the exuberant movement of the dance. Her aim is to invoke a sense of pride and nostalgia in these old, traditional dances.

Now living and working in East Lothian, Janet is regularly commissioned to paint a specific tartan or event. There are many galleries throughout Scotland exhibiting her work and her paintings are often used by organisations, such as the RSCDS, for cards, calendars and illustration.
